Prof. Christopher Weldon

Chair

University of Pretoria, South Africa

Professor Christopher Weldon is based in the Department of Zoology and Entomology in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences of the University of Pretoria, South Africa.

As an entomologist interested in insect behaviour and physiological ecology, his research spans fundamental questions about the evolution of life histories and their interactions with diet, nutrition, and stress resistance. He also applies these foundations to improve food security and the profitability of food producers by developing or optimising sustainable insect management practices and rearing systems.

He is on the editorial board of four journals. In 2023, he was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Entomological Society in recognition of the significant contribution that he has made to his field. He also served as the President of the Entomological Society of Southern Africa for several terms.
