Dr. Nomthi Kanyile

Secretary General

University of Pretoria, South Africa

I am a Lecturer at the University of Pretoria and currently serve as Secretary of the ICE 2028
Local Organising Committee. My research focuses on insect-microbe interactions, exploring
how microbial symbionts shape insect behaviour, physiology, and adaptation to stressors such as pesticides. I am particularly interested in the microbiome of post-harvest pests and how understanding these associations can support sustainable pest management in African
agricultural systems. Beyond research, I am passionate about science communication, visiting schools and career fairs to promote entomology and broader scientific literacy, especially among underrepresented groups. I also serve as an Associate Editor for the Methods in Ecology and Evolution blog, where I highlight emerging methods in ecological research.
